False Calculations Presidium

Anastasia Ryabova

Whether or not we understand the workings of today’s economy, we are required to operate in a world of our own needs and limited resources. The pressure of economic necessity is so strong that it leads to the perception of the free market as the only possible environment for the interaction of human interests, which, in this case, is often seen as openly hostile to us. The incredible, occasionally absurd complexity of the structure of today’s capitalism has led to a growing alienation and artistic and political vigilance. “False Calculations Presidium” is an attempt to elicit artists’ responses to global economic processes including those that are occurring in contemporary art, turning it into an experimentation site for free enterprise. The exhibition was held in a ruined space of a museum – a fragment of a possible future, in which market relations will have become museum exhibits created by artists. Participants in this exhibition include young artists from Russia, Ukraine, the Czech Republich, Austria, Holland, and France.
