Olesya Turkina

Born in 1961 in Kozelsk, Russia.

PhD in Art History, Chief Research Fellow at Contemporary Art Department of the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg, Russia).

Curator of numerous exhibitions including: Evolution of the Image: Light. Sound. Material (State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, 1996); Kabinet (Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, 1997); MIR: Made in the 20th Century (Russian Pavilion at the 48th Venice Biennale, 1999); Electric Earth: Contemporary British Video Art (State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg, 2002); Modus R: Russian Formalism Today (co-curated by Evgenia Kikodze, special project for Art Basel Miami Beach, 2006); Observatory (Central Astronomical Observatory at Pulkovo, 2007); Necrorealism (special project of the 4th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, 2011).

Contributor to numerous Russian and international publications.

From 2003 to 2008, Editor-in-chief of the first English-language web site about contemporary Russian art, Contemporary Russian Art Newsletter.

Since 2003, Lecturer at the Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences of St. Petersburg State University.

In partnership with the Museum of Jurassic Technology, Los Angeles, worked on a series of films called The Chain of Flowers: Levsha (2000), The Common Task (2004), and The Great Soviet Eclipse (2008).

Since 1999, member of the Russian Federation of Cosmonautics.
