Dear artists!

We invite you to participate in the open call of the main project of the X International Shiryaevo Bienniale: "Glee". The project is held as a residence in the village of Shiryaevo from August 12 to 26, 2018 with the final presentation of the works of all artists in the format of the exhibition-travel "Nomadic show" on August 25.

One of the important parts of the Biennale structure is the International Creative Laboratory which is held for two weeks as a contemporary art experiment within a traditional Russian village. Of special significance here is the fact that the artists live in the locals' houses, thus they get immersed in a local cultural situation. It helps to create an independent and ideal space for an artistic statement. Every artist has an opportunity «to start from scratch» without any pressure from past experience, existing personal image and art market technologies.

The central event of the Biennale is the Nomadic Show. It is a symbiosis of two concepts: the European one — «show», and the Asian one — «nomadic».

The action takes only one day for 7-8 hours, and combines the work of all the artists of the laboratory into a single synthetic work.

Each participant or creative group has a personal time for presentation. To witness this event, most viewers come from Samara by a special ship. The "Horde" of spectators is moving along the proposed route together with the authors and local residents, mastering all new foci of art and involving in their procession all the new participants.

The whole village with a surrounding landscape serves as the space for showing the works: Volga, mountains, galleries (caves in the mountains), lake shore, village houses, streets, school, House of Culture, marina, etc. The route is built in ascending order - it starts from the pier and ends in the mountains.

Shiryaevo village is attractive to a wide spectator audience, as one of the most beautiful places of the Samara bows, which is part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. Therefore, the Shiryaev Biennale is focused on preserving the natural and historical integrity of the landscape and leaves no "traces" after the event.
