Lecture by Donato Piccolo

Thinking the unthinkable

The North-Western Branch of the NCCA in cooperation with the Youth Educational Center of the State Hermitage and with the support of the media lab Cyland held a presentation of the project of media artist Donato Piccolo "Comprehending the Unthinkable" on November 7, 2017.

The project "Thinking the unthinkable" was created by the artist during his stay at the Art Residence of the NCCA in Kronstadt (Russia). The artistic residence together with the CYLAND media laboratory provided the artist with space for work and technical support.

Donato Piccolo works between contemporary art, science and new technologies, uses writing,

painting and sculpture in order to examine the relationships between artifice and nature, between

mechanics and representation of reality. Natural, biological, cognitive and physical phenomena are

turned into kinetic installations, emotional states, forms and processes.

Within the framework of the project, the artist gave a lecture to students of the Youth Educational Center about the system of human thinking, on the artist's reflections on the possibilities of artificial intelligence in the context of contemporary art.
