Kristina Paabus

Kristina Paabus (b.1976) artist from Estonia and USA, earned her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  Studied Fine Arts and Religious Studies at University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and Printmaking at The Estonian Academy of Arts.  Kristina has exhibited her work throughout the US and Europe, including in Dallas, Iowa City, Detroit, Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Reykjavik, Miami, Berlin, and Tallinn. 

Paabus is the recipient of a Fulbright, The University of Iowa, an Illinois Arts Council Grant, Oberlin College Faculty Research Grants.

Kristina has attended artist residences at Women’s Studio Workshop (NY), ACRE (WI), Kimmel Harding Nelson (NE), Lillstreet (IL), SÍM (Iceland), MUHU A.I. (Estonia), and many others.

Paabus is Associate Professor at Oberlin College, and previously taught at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

At the NCCA Kronstadt Residency she proposes to make a series of multi-media drawings based on the history, environment, and experience of Kronstadt. She is  particularly interested in looking at the naval influence on the architecture and area, and translating that in her artwork.
