The 5th seminar in the series of seminars «What is contemporary art?»

(Reading intensive), conducted in English

(for the participants of the School for the Young Artists program)

A series of seminars “What Is Contemporary Art?” is an intensive immersion into the field of contemporary critical thought. By ‘intensive immersion’ we mean reading huge bulks of sources in the original language (English) as well as participation in discussions. The seminar doesn’t aim to embrace all the theories and practices, associated with the second half of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. Its aim is to introduce the participants to the key texts of the period, that, to a large extent, have shaped the context of modern artistic statement.

Alina Belishkina is a curator and lecturer in critical theory at Photodepartament Foundation, St Petersburg.

School for the Young Artists is a joint project of the PRO ARTE Foundation and the North-Western Branch of the NCCA supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and Mikhail Prokhorov Foundation.
