20th and 21st Century Art: Thursdays in the Russian Museum

a series of educational workshops for young artists


16 May, 2013 featured the third session of the project "Thursdays in the Russian Museum (Along with the City program)" for young artists who study in Kronstadt Art School for Children named after Mikhail Anikushin.

The session was dedicated to abstract art, its artistic language and basis. During the first part of the class in the Benois Wing of the State Russian Museum Alexei Boiko, Head of the Department of Museum Education Technologies in the Center for Museum Education and Children’s Crafts at the Russian Museum, guided a tour titled "Abstraction in Russia". Students got acquainted with artworks by Kazimir Malevich, Pavel Filonov, Natalia Goncharova, Timur Novikov and other artists from the State Russian Museum’s collection.

Later in the Eastern Corps de Garde Pavillion of the Mikhailovsky Castle (Russian Centre for Museum Pedagogy and Children’s Crafts) Boris Stolyarov, the Head of the Russian Center for Museum Education and Children’s Crafts at the Russian Museum, and Alexei Boiko conducted a final talk which completed the spring course of the educational program.

  

The project “20th and 21st Century Art: Thursdays in the Russian Museum - a series of educational workshops for young artists” will be continued in autumn 2013.

The project has been jointly organized by National Centre for Contemporary Arts, North-Western Branch, Russian Centre for Museum Pedagogy and Children’s Crafts, and Kronstadt Art School for Children named after Mikhail Anikushin.
