"The Motion of Spring/48 plants"
16.12 - 18.12.2012, 14:00-00:20
From 17th to 18th of December (Monday-Tuesday) 2012 Dutch artists Rudy Luijters and Onno Dirker will realize in Kaliningrad an international art project titled “The Motion of Spring/48 plants”. The project consists of a lecture, a workshop and an exhibition that are united by the interest of the authors to the botany and historic and cultural heritage of the Kaliningrad Region.
The artists are turning to the method of phenological monitoring* that was firstly formulated and tested by Johannes Abromeit (1857-1946) and repeated in 1993-94 by the famous teacher and a researcher Galina Georgievna Kucheneva. The essence of the matter is to observe five stages of development of 48 plants in different parts of the region.
* Phenology is a system of knowledge about the seasonal phenomena of nature, the terms of their occurrence and the reasons for defining these terms. Artists use this method as a basis for interaction with the local community and for the study of local natural and cultural landscape in which they are planning various artistic interventions in museums and public spaces of Kaliningrad.
On Monday, December 17, 10:00 to 18:00 – a workshop, where everyone, both professional artists and amateurs together, can try to draw one of the 48 plants, which were observed with the enthusiasm by the environmentalists over the spring and even summer. Location: conference hall in the Kaliningrad junior center for the environmental, local history and tourism studies.
December 18 at 18.00 (Tuesday) - opening of the exhibition of works and project documentation created during the workshop. Location: the Kaliningrad junior center for the environmental, local history and tourism studies. Botanicheskaja St. 2.
Artists, environmentalists and everyone interested are invited to participate in the project. All the works produced during the workshop will become a part of the artists book and also a larger exhibition planned for 2013 in Kaliningrad.
