Artist Yury Vassiliev. Video installation “The Waiting Room”
28.08 - 07.09.2012
Program: [CONTEMPORARY ART AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY]
Included in: [Public art in Kaliningrad. Transformation of public spaces]
Video installation by Yury Vassiliev, an artist from Kaliningrad City, titled “The Waiting Room” will be shown from August 28 to September 7 in the waiting room of the South Train Station in Kaliningrad. This piece was created specifically for the space of the waiting room at the train station. It is conformed compositionally to the architectonics of the format in which it is placed.
“At first sight this artwork by Yury Vassiliev plays with a notion of aesthetics of total direct transmission that does not have a beginning or an end and imitates ‘peep-hole’ effect. The screen functions as a mirror reflecting events happening to real people positioned on the other side of it awaiting the train… At the same time something makes one doubt the purity of the documentary record of the events. That ‘something’ makes it a work of art rather than a plain capture. Where is the border line between the documentary and the artistic?” – Irina Tchesnikova, a curator for the project.
