Gudrun Wassermann was born in the city of Insterburg (now Chernyakhovsk, Kaliningrad region). Her ancestors emigrated from Salzburg to East Prussia in the 18th century. In 1944/45 she herself moved from East Prussia to Silesia and subsequently to Bavaria.
The history of her own family was the starting point for the project “Kaliningrad – the inhabitants” which dwells on the issues of remembrance and being on the move, migration of people and objects.
The author film consists of video portraits of contemporary inhabitants of Kaliningrad aged 25 to 83 who are discussing how the migration background affects the present-day life and how Kaliningrad and Koenigsberg are interconnected, whether there is a special “Kaliningrad” identity and how the Kaliningrad inhabitants are doing today.

The film will be the basis for an installation which Gudrun Wassermann will present at the Kaliningrad Art gallery on October 21st and which will be on till November 13th 2011.

The project is realized with the financial support by:
Government of the Federal State Schleswig-Holstein (Germany)
