Baltic Branch of NCCA is pleased to announce Sound Around Kaliningrad, an international festival which is a unique opportunity for the Kaliningrad audience to get introduced to the works of the leading European musicians who work with contemporary experimental music and sound art and help create a platform for cooperation between international and Kaliningrad sound artists and musicians.
4th edition of festival will feature concerts, performances, lectures, screenings and workshops (ECHO and Listen>Play<Listen) focusing around experimental sound as main component. This year, three new venues will be introduced: opening concert will take place at art space Vorota, club night at former Soviet House of Culture SPLAV, and composers’ concert at Kaliningrad Philharmony. During the festival more than 15 artists and projects, mostly from local scene, will play experimental music of different genres, from ambient, drone and noise to electroacoustics, free jazz and contemporary classic, and also dance music of wide range. Sound Around line-up features musicians, performers, theorists, DJs and VJs from Switzerland, Norway, Italy, Latvia, Poland and Lithuania, St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad, including such artists as Dave Phillips, Sturle Dagsland, Konrad Geka and Painè Cuadrelli.
The biggest festival of experimental music in Kaliningrad takes place every year since 2011 as a continuation of international projects Audio Tourism, Sound Art Camp and Acoustic Diagnostic, which were realized by Baltic Branch for National Centre of Contemporary Arts since 2005. During this time in the festival was visited by such famous musicians and sound artists as Carl Michael von Hausswolf, JG Thirlwell, Jana Winderen, Vladimir Tarasov, Mats Lindström, Jakob Kirkegaard, Dmitry «VTOL» Morozov and many others.
