XVIII FREE VERSE POETRY FESTIVAL
30th of April – 1st of May 2011
Our city will be the fourth, after Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and Tver, to host one of the oldest All-Russia festivals – Free Verse Poetry Festival; during years of its existence the Festival had several hundreds of participants, belonging to different poetic traditions, yet united for the time of the Festival by their commitment to the form of free verse poetry.
This year among the Festival’s participants there will be renowned authors of Russian contemporary poetry (V. Kupriyanov, Y. Orlitskiy, D. Davydov, D. Kuzmin and others), as well as promising novice poets. Works of authors from the “near abroad” will also be presented. Naturally, feature of this year’s vers libre Festival is a fairly wide representation of poets from Nizhny Novgorod.
Aside from traditional poetic readings, the Festival includes a seminar on issues pertaining to vers libre, as well as an evening of poets-translators presenting diverse range of free verse poetry in different languages to the audience.
The Festival will be the first literature event hosted in the Arsenal of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin – venue of the National Centre for Contemporary Arts, Volga region branch.
