Yuri Sobolev's exhibition shows the heritage of a graphic artist whose work was much ahead of his time. Sobolev became a prominent figure in the Russian art history of the second half of the 20th century. He was one of the active agents of the contemporary art process, a participant of the famous Manege Exhibition '30 years of the Moscow Union of Artists' (1962), one of the leaders of Moscow unofficial art in the 1960s and 70s, an innovator of magazine design, a pioneer of Russian media art, a theatre director, set designer and teacher.
The exhibition features the artist's family archive, presents easel graphic works, design mock-ups, book and magazine illustrations, prints, animated films directed by Andrei Khrzhanovsky (who Sobolev collaborated with as a production designer), fragments of slide films, a video interview with the artist andperformances of the Emergency Exit group formed by students of the Sobolev School.
