Moving Imagination. New Independent Animation
December 23, 2017 — March 25, 2018
exhibition is part of the Graphic Study programme

Contemporary Russian animation is highly valued in the world of cinematography. Russian filmmakers regularly receive awards from prestigious animation festivals. One of the trends of contemporary independent animation is that more and more directors also work as artists for their films. They don't just want to tell a story, first of all they strive to develop an original visual language. Thus, the visual decision determines the plasticity of the movement, the nature of the narrative, and can even influence the plot.

The exhibition focuses on such authors – contemporary Russian film directors, whose films differ in non-standard graphic and technical solutions. The exhibition presents 14 animated films and materials for them: sketches, storyboards, drawings, frames from films, collages, photo documentation and more.
The authors are not afraid to experiment with the visual stylistics of their films, go beyond traditional methods, surprise audience and colleagues.

Exhibition participants: Konstantin Brilliantov, Anna Budanova, Dmitry Geller, Boris Kazakov, Anzhella Lipskaya, Ivan Maksimov, Irina Rubina, Natalya Ryss, Sasha Svirsky, Evgeny Strelkov, Andrey Suzdalev, Nadezhda Fedotova, Svetlana Filippova, the Moving Pictures Workshop
