Contemporary Udmurtia exhibition
8 April – 12 June


The main theme of the exposition - methods and mechanisms of transformation of traditional culture into contemporary art. The exhibition presents painting, graphic art, photography, multimedia, objects of artists living in Udmurtia or working with Finno-Ugric theme.

"Contemporary Udmurtia is a laboratory for search of a new language which can express contemporary condition of the society in the Russian region. Works included into the exposition refer to different traditions, reminding us about their diversity. It is an artistic and anthropological research which discovers connections between different sign systems of contemporary culture, between tradition and art". Daria Tkacheva, art critic.

Zoya Lebedeva (flor textile, woodcut, video projection), Alexander Pilin (felt objects), City of Ustinov art group micro objects), Pavel Aksenov (graphic art), Andrey Yakovlev & Lili Aleeva (photography), Dmitry Ermakov, Lev Vakhitov (documentary), students of the A. Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia, video artists from Tver, Izhevsk, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod.

Curator of the project: Alexander Yuminov.

Opening of the exhibition will take place on April 07 at 19.00.

First events of the exhibition's parallel program:

April 08, 18.30. Master class by the artist Zoya Lebedeva "What the grass keeps silent about? No magic involved." Acquaintance with authorial weaving techniques: "flor textile", "carton-tool". Participants can create their own works from junk and utility waste. Utility waste as a cause for contemplation. Trodding untrodden paths - weaving and painting as a simple away to become familiar with art.
Free admission.

April 13, 18.30. Authorial guided tour with the director of Pro Magazine Group publishing house Ekaterina Chudakova.
