This year among priorities of the Arsenal there are matters related to the research of the “spirit of the place” (“genius loci”) through contemporary art.

Besides the exhibition “High Hopes Museum” and research project “Nizhny Novgorod: an attempt of contemporary description”, a series of events is followed by the interdisciplinary seminar “Contemporary Art and Local Context” focused on the discussion of the interaction between local history, museum activities and contemporary art.
The seminar will provide a platform for a professional discussion and analysis of already existing experience of Russian and foreign institutions, art and curatorial projects. It will host eminent Russian and foreign curators, museum and gallery directors, art historians and art critics.

Within the framework of the seminar, a concert “Imaginary Folklore” takes place. It's a compositor's research that introduces folk features of the traditional culture into actual context.
