Yakov Kazhdan. Long live Tatlin's art! Still from performance video documentation, 2001

The Paper Theatre of Yasha Kazhdan existed from about 1999 to 2003. The regular participants were: Thalia Verkade, Mila Vigdorova, Yakov Kazhdan, Catherine Koryukina Mary Kravtsov, Alexey Lobanov, Xenia Peretrukhina, Alexander Radzievskii, Irina Saminskaya, Polina Tarshis, Marcel Fassi, Sergey Shcherbakov.

It combines in its practice the traditional ritual theater based on ancient drama with the modern forms of actual scenography, performed in the artist’s theater. Installation, performance, video art, where the paper becomes
the visual matter and art subject, determine the phenomenality of Yasha Kazhdan’s theater. Artist’s strategy dictates the philosophy and existence of this unique phenomenon, creating its «subject» area. Paper while maintaining its quality of fragility at the same time opens up new creative opportunities of artistic behavior becoming not only an information medium but supporting the imaginative theatrical mind.

During the workshop video-clips of performances dedicated to Vladimir Tatlin will be shown.
