The unique specimens of books shown at the Handmade Book exhibition are works created by Russian artists by hand from paper, fabric, leather, wood and metal and are designed more for consideration, admiration and discussion at exhibitions than for reading. Some of them cannot be opened at read at all…

While showing artistic models of books in a high school, the exhibition is initiating a competition for students to create their own model book which help “tame” books and overcome points of alienation existing between reader (including students) and a book as the paramount object in the life of people and culture.

The challenge of the exhibition: to affirm in viewers a sense of the aesthetic impossibility of replacing books created with the involvement of artists with other information sources.

Several of the artists taking part in the Handmade Book exhibition will be invited to become members of the jury.
