in conjunction with the twentieth

anniversary of the fall of the berlin wall on

november 9, 1989, the goethe german

Cultural Center in Eastern Europe and

Central asia presents an exhibition of

modern photography and video art of the

countries of the former republics of the

soviet union: russia, ukraine, belarus,

uzbekistan, kazakhstan, kyrgyzstan,

and georgia, as well as germany. the

exposition proposes to follow how in each

of these countries the processes of deep

social changes are perceived after 1989

and what artistic interpretation they are

given.

reflected in photographs and video are

new boundaries and conflicts of interest.

the idea of independence is likewise

reflected in the perception of social

(Western) discourse, dividing space

into Europe and non-Europe. here the

division into East and West is indicative.
