Within the framework of a recital evening at NCCA Anna Koblova, Bolshoi Theatre ballet dancer and soloist with the Athena Dance Company, performs a piece entitled “LABOR”.

This performance is a study of physical and emotional resources of a human being. This will be intensive look at the spectrum of emotions and the change of different physical states of a working person.

Anna Koblova: «Listening to the gradually increasing thunder, a girl pointlessly wipes the bricks, one by one. Methodically and carefully. Feeling the usefulness of what is happening. Then she puts the bricks in a backpack and begins to move with them. Walking. Squatting. Running. Trying to jump. Increasing her speed. The sounds are getting stronger. She adds more and more bricks over her shoulders… Liberation comes only through death».

Anna Koblova has been a ballet dancer at the Bolshoi Theatre since 2001. And in 2004 she began her collaboration with choreographer Natalia Shirokova (“Provincial Dances Theatre”, Yekaterinburg). “Doors Wide Open”, a piece Natalia Shirokova choreographed specifically for Anna Koblova to perform, won the “Action” award in 2008 (The Action in Support of Russian Theatrical Initiatives in contemporary dance. Members of organizaional committee: Roman Dolzhansky, Chulpan Hamatova, Yevgeny Mironov, Kirill Serebrennikov, Teodor Kurentsis).

Anna has also been involved in three contemporary choreography projects directed by Aleksey Ratmansky of the Bolshoi Theatre: “I Am a Woman. I Am a Flower» (2006), “Seagulls. Hope» (2007), and “Sarcasm. Seamstress” (choreography by N. Shirokova, 2008).

In 2010 Anna, in collaboration with the production designer Galina Popova, choreographed and danced a solo performance entitled “A School for Fools” based on the novel by Sasha Sokolov. She is a medalist at a video-dance festival Side-By-Side in Duesseldorf with her work “I Am a Woman. I Am a Flower” (2011). A interpretive piece “Polynesia”, set to the music of Sergey Kuryokhin (Sergey Letov on saxophone), has been performed since 2012 in the museums and other non-theatrical spaces.

Since 2012 Anna has been collaborating with choreographer Athena Erofeeva as a soloist of the Athena Dance Company in Moscow. Their work includes “AMY” (in memory of Amy Winehouse) and “Steppenwolf Syndrome”, based on the novel “Steppenwolf” of Hermann Hesse. Both pieces were performed at the Edinburgh Festival in 2014.

In 2016 Anna Koblova is going to be a guest teacher of classical ballet at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Joinville (Brazil). Anna collaborates with contemporary musicians, photographers, artists and designers: Sergey Letov, Aleksey Borisov, Natalia Zintsova, Galina Popova, Sonya Golovkova, Asya Ashman, Asya Sorshneva, and Galina Slodovnikova.
